Rebecca is our principal and hence the owner of the firm.
Becky was admitted as a solicitor in 1997. At only 37 she has 10 reported cases and thrives on the cut and thrust of litigation.
She was born in Germany and moved to England in 1986. She is a local councillor for the ward of Hawley and enjoys moving the office round for her kicks!
Becky has been with her husband for 19 years and has 2 children, Annabel aged 10 and Robin aged 2, they can often be seen popping through the office or helping out on occasion.
An interview with Becky...
Why do you do this job?
I am perverse by nature, I enjoy arguing and I tend to think differently to other people so I enjoy proving my way of thinking correct! I love being right...
Why did you set up the firm?
I was working for another firm and wanted to be made a partner, it became obvious that that was not going to happen. I wasn't paid enough and so went for an interview in a London firm. They offered me the job on a great wage but the hours were shocking and I would not have seen much of Annabel so I thought "if I have to work such long hours I may as well do it closer to home and for my own benefit" so I did.
Why choose Blackwater?
There was a nice little shop that I had seen months earlier and no other solicitors in town. There is a nice sense of community in the town and it is quite a friendly area.
What have you enjoyed most about the firm?
Shortly after we opened in 2002 I received a visit from a pregnant lady seeking some legal advice in relation to her unborn child. Over the years I have seen her pass the office, first with a pram and then with a young child and now each morning as she delivers him to school. Whenever she has needed legal advice she has come to see me and I feel privileged that I have watched that child grow up. I have helped couples divorce and then seen one of them go on to marry again and have more children and seen them come in to see me. I have even acted for fathers on children's contact disputes and been phoned up years later by the child for legal advice... although that is very very unsettling when someone you think about as a child and the subject of proceedings phones you up and tells you that they are now 19 and need your help!
Any regrets?
A few, but then again too few to mention! Well there are a few old employees that I still miss and wish that they hadn't left.
