About usThe firm was established in February 2002 by Becky Hawksley. Our philosophyWhen the firm was started it was to ensure that we could work in an environment that broke the mould. In Becky's experience there are a lot of stereotypes about lawyers - we aim to get away from those stereotypes. If, after you have got to know us, you see any that apply to us - for goodness sake tell us ! No-one has had to so far ! We are not pompous, we are not interested in making lots of money and driving fast cars, we are not into using language that you the client cannot understand and we do not consider clients as a necessary evil. Furthermore our offices are not traditional, we work in tidy offices which are light and airy with modern furniture and equipment. We have banned piles of papers being left anywhere! More surprisingly we have a sense of humour about ourselves! Please leave any good lawyer jokes on the page dedicated to them - the best will be posted there. So far only one person has given us a new one which was too riskay to be posted on the web site, and since I decided to include this page I have only come across four ! Our way is to give practical advice. We consider the principles of a matter, the aspects of a case that are important to you, the law and of course your pocket. We are not afraid of hard work and will do whatever is needed and when it needs to be done. We enjoy our contact with clients and will always do our best to return calls and correspondence in a reasonable time frame if you couldn't get hold of us on your first attempt. All information is confidential and the files are kept locked away and closed to prying eyes. Any valuable papers such as deeds and wills are kept locked in our fireproof safe. We can only provide you with all your options for you to make your own decision. We ensure that you are informed about the choices and help you to carry out your decision. Any expenditure is always checked with you first and we keep you informed throughout of what has happened, regularly telling you of the costs incurred. Please look at the page regarding costs to discover more. We believe in professional service being provided in a cost effective and realistic manner. No-one likes to waste money and we always try to ensure that we consider your financial needs as well as your legal needs. Staff profilesThe firm opened on the 14th February 2002. We have four members of staff at the moment , two full time and two part time. We place equal value on the work each of us does whether 'behind the scenes' or 'at the coal face'. We do not currently have a designated receptionist so if you call in or phone you are likely to deal first with Keith, Nicola or Marilyn - if Becky is not available they will all take a message or try and answer your query. Keith is our office manager and deals with all the administrative matters and our accounts. Keith works part time at present. He has a background in IT but also lends a hand in a secretarial role now and then as he is a dab hand at sewing the documents! Nicola is our full time secretary and has come a long way to work here. She worked as a legal secretary in South Africa and has settled down to our ways fairly quickly. She is most familiar with the files after Becky and can normally help with smaller queries if you do not need to speak to Becky. Marilyn is our part time secretary. She works three days a week and is always ready to assist if you call in, she too may be able to help with smaller queries. Becky and Marilyn worked together in Virginia Water before the firm was established. Becky is the owner of the firm - the principal - and a sole practitioner. She is responsible for everyone in the firm and for the work they do. If ever you have a concern with the way something is dealt with talk to Becky. Becky does all the case work in the firm. She is a fully qualified solicitor and was admitted to the Supreme Court in September 1997. Becky's father was in the army when she was born and she grew up mostly in Germany, coming back to England when she was 14. Becky was then brought up in Oldham, doing her GCSE's and A-levels there. Her A-levels were in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General studies plus an AS in Maths. She then escaped from Oldham for only a short time by attending Aberystwyth University to do her Law degree. At Aberystwyth she earned herself an LLB(Hons). Another year was spent in Oldham going to the Legal Practice course, which all solicitors have to attend, before Becky finally escaped to Eastbourne. There she worked for two years as a trainee solicitor with Lawson Lewis & Co and stayed on for 9 months. For the 4 years before starting this firm Becky worked (with Marilyn) for Seakens & Co in Virginia Water. Becky met her husband when she was 18 in 1991, they married in 1997 and have since had one child, Annabel (4) and a dog - who often comes to the office - called Murphy! Whenever someone wary of dogs comes in and Murphy is there he makes himself scarce. Becky enjoys the law and the practice of it and always welcomes a good challenge.
